UV rays, thick brush, and local custom will often dictate that you have to wear pants-even when it's too hot to do so. Good thing Mountain Hardwear made the Canyon Pants. Their ultra-lightweight, soft, 3-oz. Supplex fabric is treated to transport moisture in its vapor phase before it becomes sweat, so you'll stay drier and protect your legs at the same time. As in the originals, the waist/hip area is seamless and conical for comfort, but in this latest revision it's unlined to keep the weight and heat down. Pockets are deep for access while wearing a pack, and have mesh or button-hole drainage (so when you take a dunking, you won't emerge with balloons for legs). Rear pockets are patch on the Men's, welted on the Women's; on both, the right pocket zips closed and the left seals with Velcro. Crotch and legs are gusseted for extended range of motion, ankles have a one-hand operational drawcords for keeping out sand, scree, and bugs, and the built-in twill webbing belt (with cam buckle) will accommodate both a pre- or post-meal belly.
