The AvaLung functions as an artificial air pocket through which air is taken directly from the surrounding snowpack. This air is directed to the user's mouthpiece via respiratory tubing. The exhaled air is redirected to a different part of the snowpack to minimize C02 contamination. The AvaLung has been proven to function in even very dense, wet snow.
