Survival of a Travel Blanket

I am the proud owner of a brand new blue Woolrich Travel Blanket. Well, it was brand new. My husband gave me the travel blanket to keep with me in my car should I ever need it. I was hoping for something a little more girlish, oh, such as: jewelry, Chanel #5, or perhaps tickets for a cruise. Being the mother of three lovely little ladies, and two puppies, he figured the blanket would be much more useful. To tell you the truth, it really is. The jewelry I would only wear when he and I go out on our “dates”, which is just about once a year. The channel #5 would get worn with the jewelry, and the tickets for the cruise are for when our youngest graduates from college….. top of page

Now, let me tell you about the Blanket. My Travel Blanket’s first day of traveling was to Field Day at my five-year-old’s school. I wasn’t quite sure how it would hold up. Field Day at our school is when the entire child population comes out of their classrooms to participate in organized sporting events. We even had a D.J. playing upbeat tunes to keep the energy level going.

My little one and I found a spot to set up our blanket and thermal lunch bag under a nice shady tree. I had told my daughter, “Lets remember to not step all over this nice new blanket, o.k.?”……..”O.k. Mommy…..We’ll keep it clean….”

All of a few seconds, and the blanket was laid down for the day, or so I thought. Children are everywhere….running this way and that. I’m standing guard near my new blanket, watching in defeat as 20 or so little feet went running over it. I bent down to shake it off, thinking to myself; this is it for this blanket. It looked good while it lasted. Well, I better give it a shake…… top of page

It’s shaken off, and still looking new! Just a little dusty, but not a single thread was pulled, or even tousled! So, down it goes again. I finally get to sit down on it for a few seconds, then my baby and some of her “girls” come over to get some “quiet time mommy”. They all had to shake the blanket again because of one single piece of grass. Down it goes for the third time, then the fourth, and even a fifth! The girls had to have the blanket put down in the EXACT right spot….or they just couldn’t lay down on it…girls will be girls! Now here come a couple of five year old boys….You can imagine the commotion on the blanket…no boys allowed! Needless to say, as you can all see in this picture, the girls won out BIGTIME! top of page

Field Day turned out to be successful! Our class won quite a few of the events-YEA! More importantly, my Travel Blanket proved to be tougher than all of the Field Day events put together. At the end of the afternoon, we picked up my other two girls and went home, feeling just as dusty and tired as the blanket looked. Into the wash the blanket went….

After the experience of an afternoon with very busy kindergarteners, and being washed and dried, I am very happy to say that my blanket still looks brand new and is ready for a day at the lake!
